There are several different channel drain covers, what applications is each design most suited for?
We have four different cover options for our 32'' Channel Drains.
Our flush design, the 32CDFLFRxxx, is best used when the drain cover is installed where swimmers are active. Its flush design helps prevent toe stubbing and pool cleaner hang-ups.
Our anti-vortex design, the 32CDAVFRxxx, is best used in shallow water, such as catch basins, and in pools that may experience more debris. Large amounts of debris, such as leaves, can gather and cover the openings of our flush covers, the slightly raised design of the anti-vortex drain helps prevent this.
Our pinhole design, the 32CDPHFRxxx, helps prevent hair from entering the drain, it is best used on walls where swimmers may be active.
Our leaf trapper design, the 32CDLTFRxxx is best used in pools with in-floor cleaning systems, or that experience a lot of large debris.
Does the 32CDLTFRxxx have an expiration date?
Yes. The VGB law that went into effect in 2008 requires that all public pools and spas have drain covers that comply with the ASME/ANSI A112.19.8 performance standard, or any successor standard, currently ANSI/APSP 16-2011. This standard requires that manufacturers determine a life expectancy and place a permanent mark with ''Life: X Years'' on each cover to indicate lifespan. At AquaStar, based on UV, structural and fastener testing, we've determined that our drain covers should be replaced every five years from the date of installation, as stated in our instructions. Please look above under ''Support Documents'' to download a Certificate of Compliance for this product. Please fill out and safely store this document, it may be requested during inspection processes.
Can I order just the cover and screws for replacement if I do not need the sump/frame?
Our 32'' Leaf Trapper drain cover is always shipped with a frame. If you need to replace this cover, the least expensive option is the 32CDLTFRxxx (xxx = Color Code). If you do not need the frame for the replacement, please discard it.
When the cover for the 32CDLTFRxxx expires, do I need to replace the mudframe/sump too?
The existing frame/sump must be in good condition, or else it must be replaced.
The new screws must securely fasten to the frame and have a minimum of three threads of engagement.
Where can I find the manufacturing date for the 32CDLTFRxxx suction outlet cover?
The manufacture date is molded on to each drain cover, it is represented by a small dial that has the year in the center and an arrow pointing to the month.
Why do some areas require builders to split single-unblockable drain covers?
A small percentage of states and regions have not adopted the most recent codes and standards that allow the use of single-unblockable drains. Only one VGB unblockable drain is required to comply with the VGB Pool & Spa Safety Act, International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC), ANSI/APSP/ICC-5 residential pool standard, and ANSI/APSP/ICC 7 (2006 & 2013), provided the flow rating engraved on the cover equals or exceeds the maximum flow rate of the specific system. California, Texas, Arizona and several other states have adopted the ISPSC as an optional building and remodeling code that allows single-unblockable installations.
