Product Specific FAQ

Click on a question to see the answer. If you do not see your question below scroll down to the bottom to send us your question.

Why is the part number 12-xxx engraved on each drain cover and not 24xxx?

The 12-xxx is a component part number of the suction outlet fitting assembly (SOFA). The assembly part number with the 4x4 window mud frame and four 12'' covers is 24xxx.

We do not sell individual 12-xxx drain covers. The 12-xxx drain covers should only be installed in to a compliant 24xxx assembly.

Does the 24xxx have an expiration date?

Yes. The VGB law that went into effect in 2008 requires that all public pools and spas have drain covers that comply with the ASME/ANSI A112.19.8 performance standard, or any successor standard, currently ANSI/APSP 16-2011. This standard requires that manufacturers determine a life expectancy and place a permanent mark with ''Life: X Years'' on each cover to indicate lifespan. At AquaStar, based on UV, structural and fastener testing, we've determined that our drain covers should be replaced every five years from the date of installation, as stated in our instructions. Please look above under ''Support Documents'' to download a Certificate of Compliance for this product. Please fill out and safely store this document, it may be requested during inspection processes.

Will the 24xxx replace any other manufacturer drain covers?

Yes, in addition to fitting all AquaStar 24'' square frames, the 24xxx also fits Pentair's 24'' square 3/4'' deep window grid frame and 4x4 screw hole pattern.

The 24xxx can be ordered without a frame if a frame is not needed during replacement. Please use part number 24NFxxx to order just the covers and hardware.

What does the colored dot in the center of the 24xxx signify? Is it the expiration/manufacturing date? Does the color of the dot matter?

The colored dot is not related to expiration or the manufacturing date.

The colored dot is AquaStar's unique trademarked compliance button that signifies that the drain cover is compliant to the 2008 VGB standard.

Its bright color is to make it easy for Department of Health and building officials' to see during inspection and verification processes.

Drain cover expiration starts on the date that the drain cover is installed.

Where can I find the manufacturing date for the 24xxx suction outlet cover?

The manufacture date is molded on to each drain cover, it is represented by a small dial that has the year in the center and an arrow pointing to the month.

Why do some inspectors require builders to split single-unbockable drain covers?

A small percentage of states and regions have not adopted the most recent codes and standards that allow the use of single-unblockable drains. Only one VGB unblockable drain is required to comply with the VGB Pool & Spa Safety Act, International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC), ANSI/APSP/ICC-5 residential pool standard, and ANSI/APSP/ICC 7 (2006 & 2013), provided the flow rating engraved on the cover equals or exceeds the maximum flow rate of the specific system. California, Texas, Arizona and several other states have adopted the ISPSC as an optional building and remodeling code that allows single-unblockable installations.
